A carjacking suspect was arrested Tuesday night after police said he led officers on a brief pursuit and then crashed the stolen Bentley.

Miami Beach police said a woman was dropping off her Bentley with a valet in the 400 block of Washington Avenue when a man came up behind her and said, “Give me your keys.”

When the woman resisted, the man told her, “I’m not playing with you. I have an AK-47, and I’ll shoot you,” according to police.

The woman handed over her keys and the man drove away in her Bentley.

Miami Beach police said an officer spotted the vehicle going west on the Julia Tuttle Causeway, but when the officer tried to pull over the Bentley in the 3700 block of Biscayne Boulevard, it drove away. A Miami Beach police officer following the Bentley on a motorcycle crashed into a median on Biscayne Boulevard and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.

A Miami-Dade police officer then tried to pull over the car, which then lost control and crashed at 7500 NW 12th St., police said. According to investigators the driver got out and tried to run away, but officers caught him.

Miami Beach police said the man, whom police identified as Jayson Raul Gomez, 26, of Labelle, admitted to stealing the car.

Gomez faces charges of carjacking and reckless driving with property damage.

The injured officer was treated and released from the hospital.
